Bishop Kearney Captures 100th Straight Win
With a well-placed spike, junior Caitlyn Nies sent the ball over the net, clinching Bishop Kearney High School varsity volleyball team’s 100th consecutive win in regular season play, under the direction of coach Theresa Gannon. The winning streak started in 1996, when the now assistant coach, Kristin Wulff, was a junior at Kearney.
In a fast moving 3 out of 5 game against Stella Maris, the score was 25-11, 25-6 and 25-7. The seniors played a big part in the afternoon’s success. Annie Hughes had 15 assists,, 12 serves and 4 aces and Ashley Savage had 3 kills. Juniors Krista Durney and Caitlyn Nies also added to the win. Krista had 6 serves and 2 aces, while Caitlyn had 7 serves, 5 kills and 6 aces.
"This was an exciting moment for the team", said coach Gannon, "and I was able to play every member of the team. Now, we have to concentrate on continuing our winning season.
