Painters Recruit Apprentices
The Joint Apprentice and Training Fund for Painters and Allied Trades, District Council 9, will conduct recruitment on October 20 for twenty-five drywall taper apprentices.
Applications can be obtained in person only at the council, located at 45-15 36 Street in Long Island City on Monday, October 20, from 9 a.m. to noon, or until fifty applications have been issued.
The union requires that applicants be at least 18 years old, have a high school or general equivalency diploma, be physically able to do the work, and attend a three-day orientation.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status.
Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
