Non-Partisan Elections Debate At PHC
Residents are invited to listen in as the pros and cons of non-partisan elections, which are a proposed in a City Charter revision referendum appearing on the November 4 ballot, are debated locally, next week.
City Councilman James Sanders, Jr. will moderate the debate, which will be held on October 14, at 7 p.m., at the Peninsula Hospital Center (PHC) Meditation Room. PHC is located at 51-15 Beach Channel Drive, Far Rockaway.
Dr. Lenora Fulani, chair of the People’s Coalition for Non-Partisan Elections will cover the position supporting the change. Mr. Vincent Payne of the Working Families Party will be presenting the position in opposition to non-partisan races.
Sanders has urged the community to attend the debate, because it will impact future New York City elections. If approved, non-partisan elections could begin as soon as 2005.
