Dr. Dorris R. Moss
Rockaway Museum Founder

Dr. Dorris R. Moss, a Rockaway resident for more than 50 years, passed away on Friday, September 26.

Moss was a director for New York City adult education, an aide to United States Congressmen, and the founder of the Rockaway Museum. She and her husband were members of West End Temple.

Moss was preceded in death by her husband, Ira.

She is survived by her children, Rabbi Steven Moss (Judy), and Marjorie Sobylak (Emil); three grandchildren, Karl, Anya, and Eli Sobylak.

Funeral services were held at the Sinai Chapels, Fresh Meadows.

William J. Anderson
Retired Postal Worker

William J. Anderson, a lifelong Rockaway Park Resident, passed away on September 26.

Anderson, who was born in Rockaway, was a retired postal worker. He was also a parishioner at St. Francis de Sales, and a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Anderson.

Anderson is survived his brother Very Reverend Luke Anderson, and a sister, Annmarie Anderson.

Visitation was held at the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. Interment was at St. Charles Cemetery.

Emily Millicent Gordon-Wright-Boothe
Nurse's Aide

Emily Millicent Gordon-Wright-Boothe "Millie," a Rockaway resident for nearly 40 years, passed away on September 26.

Millie, who was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, W.I., worked as a nurse's aide. She was affiliated with the First Presbyterian Russell Sage Memorial Church, in Far Rockaway.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Cordell and Ansel Blake; and her husband Raphael Boothe.

Millie is survived by her other children, Astel Blake, and Mildred Wright; goddaughter Mitzie, Cunningham; siblings, Donald, Wilbert, and Roy Gordon, Patricia Robinson, Lurline Reed, and Christine Gordon; grandchildren, Ansel, Anna, Jarrell, Arthina, and Ansel Blake.

Funeral arrangements entrusted with Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home. A funeral mass was held at the First Presbyterian Russell Sage Memorial Church. Interment was at Plainlawn Cemetery, Hicksville.

Emmanuel Ellis
Buildings Superintendent

Emmanuel Ellis, who lived in Rockaway for more than 10 years, passed away on September 21. He was 74.

Ellis worked as a buildings superintendent.

He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor, and is survived by his nephews, Robert Wilkins, Reginald M. Ward; nieces, Elaine Ward, Yolanda and Celeta Taylor, and other family and friends.

Funeral arrangements entrusted with Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, with a funeral mass at Gaffney's Friendship Chapel. Disposition at Oxford Hills Crematory, Chester.

John J. Hess
Former Rockaway Resident

John J. Hess, a former Rockaway resident, passed away at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, New York, on September 19.

Hess, who passed away after a brief illness, was born in Brooklyn. For nearly 40 years he worked for the Mobil Oil Company. Hess served in the United States Army during World War II, and was a longtime member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6191 (Rockaway), The Elks Lodge 2072, and the American Legion Post 20.

Hess was preceded in death by his wife, Jean (nee Farrington) Hess, and a daughter, Christine Beth Hess.

He is survived by daughters Jeanne Gutierrez, of Baldwin, and Laurel Santora (Joseph), of Far Rockaway; sons John Hess and Wife Joanie, Rockaway Park, 13 grandchildren, Nancy, Tara, Melissa, Jessica, Joseph, Jean, Christina, Jaclyn, Jillian, Jenna, Danny Boy, Patrick, and Gregory; two great granddaughters, Gabrielle, and Carly; and a niece, Carol.

A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church, followed by a Full Military Service at St. Peter's Cemetery, Plattsburgh.

Deacon Glyne Jordan, Jr.
Board of Ed Painter

Deacon Glyne Jordan, Jr., a lifelong Rockaway resident, passed away on September 26. He was 42.

Jordan, who was born in Queens, was a painter for the New York City Board of Education. He was affiliated with the Jesus Family Ministries, and then Community Church of the Nazarene.

Jordan was preceded in death by his father, Glyne, Sr., and is survived by his wife, Arlene; sons, Rashad and Shakil; daughters, Nosha and Alaijah; stepson, Alan; grandchild, Jermain; mother, Elizabeth; mother-in-law, Melta Warburton; father-in-law Brian Grant; sisters, Sybil, Patricia, and Cynthia; nephews Joseph, Carsean, Ahmad, and Lamar; nieces, Lakeesha, Niki, Cynthia, and Anita; and great nephews, Tyshawn, Davone, Isaiah, Cedrick; great nieces, Diamond, Marquai, and Jada; and son-in-law, Richard Trotman.

Funeral arrangements entrusted with Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, with a mass at Gaffney's Friendship Chapel. Interment was at Forest Park Cemetery, in New Jersey.

Kathleen Mary Sullivan
Registered Nurse

Kathleen Mary Sullivan, a Rockaway resident for 25 years, passed away on September 25.

Sullivan, who was born in the Bronx, was a dedicated nurse and healthcare provider. She was a parishioner at St. Camillus Church.

Sullivan was survived by her husband, Michael Sullivan; daughter, Kathleen Lane; sons, Edward and Michael Sullivan; sisters Jeanne Cullinane, Joanne Devlin, and Gail Kirby; brothers, John and Neil Kirby; and a granddaughter Alexa.

Visitation was held at the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. Interment was at Old St. Raymond's Cemetery.

Austine Warren
Mother of 10 Children

Austine (nee Dougherty) Warren passed away on September 25.

Warren was born on December 26, 1932 to Regina Hutchinson (nee Dougherty). She was raised on Beach 133 Street, and attended St. Francis de Sales, Stella Maris High School, and St. John's University. She was married to Belle Harbor resident Walter R. Warren, Jr., in 1953, at St. Francis; he would precede her in death.

Warren was the mother of 10 children: Michael, Christopher, Walter, Austine, Susan, Richard, Jennifer, John, David, and James. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at St. John Fisher Parish, Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
