More than 700 homes were without electricity on Monday afternoon, September 29, when a transmission wire on Bay 24 Street in Bayswater split and put the local grid off-line.
The outage, which affected homes from West Lawrence to Edgemere, lasted approximately 45 minutes, according to Linda Schwinne, a spokesperson for the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA).
"The outage began about 11:14," the spokesperson said. "Of the 727 customers affected, 400 of them were without electricity for about a half hour, and the balance for forty-five minutes."
Police report that there were no incidents during the outage, although more police units were called into the area to prevent problems and to handle traffic on streets without working traffic signals.
