Beach 116 Street Cleanup Slated For September 20
Now that another beach season is behind us, it is time for the annual International Coastal Cleanup. Along with approximately 400,000 other volunteers, Rockaway residents are urged to participate on Saturday, September 20.
More than 12,400 miles of beach and shoreline were cleaned last year resulting in 8.22 million pounds of trash- all of which is documented and most of which is debris left by beach goers.
The Beach 116 Street cleanup will begin at 9:00 a.m. on the Boardwalk.
Rick Horan, who is chairing the local beach cleaning efforts, says that volunteers need only bring themselves with a smile on their face and some time and energy to participate. Everything else will be provided.
Those interested in further information can call Horan at 917-345-3700.
