Bayswater Hearing To Address FPL Funds
A public hearing will be held by the Bayswater Civic Association on Monday, September 22 at 8 p.m. at the Bayswater Jewish Center (2355 Healy Avenue) to address $300,000 in funds that have recently become available from Florida Power and Light (FPL) for environmental and recreational use.
"This past summer, the construction of the Jamaica Bay Peaking Unit in Bayswater was completed," says Jon Gaska, the district manager for Community Board 14. "The city’s Economic Development Corporation and FPL agreed to provide money for a project that will benefit those residents directly affected by the construction and operation of the peaking unit now in operation in Bayswater."
After meetings with City Councilman James Sanders, Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer, representatives of the Bayswater Civic Association and the community board, a Community Fund Committee was set up. That committee made recommendations. The public hearing to be held on September 22 is the next step in that process.
Those who wish to testify must sign in prior to the meeting and must limit their remarks to three minutes.
Written suggestions and comments will be taken until September 30 by Community Board 14. Those interested may mail their comments to the community board at 1931 Mott Avenue, Far Rockaway, New York 11691 or may fax them to 718-868-2657.
