On The Beach

With Beverly Baxter
On The Beach With Beverly Baxter

Well, it certainly seems like a mighty long time! I hope you all enjoyed the end of summer in the greatest place on Earth! Although I heard some rumors that I was somewhere shining brightly on Mars, I simply spent the entire latter part of the summer at my family’s home in Southampton. It may have felt like a world away, but my heart is always in Rockaway! Whenever I spent time on the East End, I never tire of comparing the two seaside hamlets. Although we are so different in every respect, the one most important similarity we have is the ocean and its waves and depth of enormous potential. We should never cease in our focus on that.. the possibilities! And we have something they don’t: our proximity to the greatest city in the world.

Speaking of the Hamptons, we also have a more serious common issue and that is our ability to withstand and prepare for a category 5 Hurricane and evacuation measures just in case we are hit. With all the productive building going on and swell in our population, our elected officials and civic organizations really need to address this very real problem. So, prepare and brace yourself and stay safe.

Since I’ve only been back a couple of weeks, I’m just diving back into things and look forward to resuming my column.

Happy Birthday wishes to Mary Alice Lane (my favorite "MA") and of course, to my favorite little (he’s 6’1) brother, Michael Reilly...who share the same September 24th birthday! Slainte!

See you...On the Beach!
