Sanders Easily Outdistances Brown
James Sanders, Jr. garnered nearly 80 percent of the vote in Tuesday's Democratic Primary Election in the 31st Councilmanic District, easily beating his opponent, Everly D. Brown to tie up a party slot in the upcoming November election.
"This is a mandate from the electorate," Sanders told The Wave on Wednesday morning. "It is a vindication of my candidacy and of the work I am doing in the area of economic development for my community."
"It is clear they wanted a real Democrat and not a stealth Republican," Sanders added, alluding to the fact that his opponent, Everly Brown, already holds the Republican and Conservative lines in the upcoming November 4 election.
Sanders now holds both the Democratic and Liberal lines for that election.
Brown was not available for comment.
