Crash Claims Teenage Victim

A 16-year-old girl was fatally injured last week, when the car she was in lost control just south of the North Channel Bridge, police said.

Isat Kaniz, of Astoria, who rode in the rear passenger seat, was taken to Jamaica Hospital Center where she later died, according to police. The accident happened at about 9:30 p.m. last Sunday, in the north-bound lanes of Cross Bay Boulevard, within the bird sanctuary, according to police. Ahmed Yeahis, 19, lost control of the 1996 four-door Saturn he was driving, and crashed into a tree, police said. Yeahis, of Long Island City, and two other passengers received minor injuries.

At press time it was not clear what the relationship of the passengers was and neither the driver nor victim's family could be reached for comment.

Police said the Accident Investigation Division is investigating.
