Sanders Joins Read-A-Loud Program At Arverne Library
Queens Library Interim Director Thomas W. Galante joined City Councilmember James Sanders at the Arverne Branch today to announce the launch of the "Councilman James Sanders Read-A-Loud Program". The program, which will run for four weeks at three separate branches, was funded by a $15,000 grant from Councilmember Sanders. With the funding provided professional authors will read to children at the Arverne, Laurelton and Rosedale libraries – encouraging children to read while exposing them to accomplished authors of children’s books. In addition, several hundred new books will be purchased for each branch as a result of the grant. Councilmember Sanders said "Libraries have always been important to me and I know how very important reading is to the children in my district. I am proud to have been able secure this funding so that our children can learn and explore the wonders of reading". Library Director Thomas Galante went on to add "The Queens Library appreciates the ongoing support of Councilmember Sanders. He has been a true champion of libraries and education and we are pleased to be able to offer this program to the children in Arverne, Laurelton and Rosedale".
