Don’t take your head out of the clouds! The cloud formations were too beautiful to behold these last few days, especially at the rise of the sun and at it’s setting; made for an artist’s brush or a camera’s lens. Though I have been all over the world and have seen most unusual colorful clouds in the sky, they couldn’t get any better than those right here in the New York area encompassing the Rockaways. With all the gloom and doom and heartache in the world today and the sadness that surrounds us on the Anniversary of 9/11, we can still lift our heads and see the magnificent beauty of our God given world. May it give those most deeply touched by their losses in the tragedies realization that dark clouds need not be constantly with them. May they see the sun peek through to brightened the clouds as it smiles down upon them. We must have faith happier times will fill our days. My heartfelt condolences go out to those whose wounds have been reopened by this National Memorial for all the innocent victims as well as our heroes in the Fire and Police Departments. Hopefully it will bring closure with strength to face newer and better days.
There are certainly bright and sunny days for BPSC member, Pat and Jimmy Doyle, whose son Brian just returned from a six-month stint in Iraq and will be home till Monday before he leaves for his home base in Hawaii. There is talk about him returning, this time to Afghanistan, but, hopefully that will not happen. Brian intends to be back home in March 2004 to be best man at the wedding of his brother, Christopher.
And, speaking of weddings, Coleen Barnes’ wedding should be considered the wedding of the year. Unfortunately, I did not get into Breezy till after six and missed it, but I heard from Ellen Wunder, who was at the Bay House, where wedding party and guests made an in-between stop before boarding buses to reception, how beautiful they all looked; the bride in white, bridesmaids (12 ) in off white. I am sure the TV cameras were around too. It is scheduled to be seen on Buff Bride on television soon.
Ever since that article of me appeared in the New Yorker people have been ever so kind as to offer me rides if they see me on the road. And, sometimes they are very prominent people, such as Msgr. Michael J. Connelly, pastor of St. Thomas More Church who, I his car, almost unrecognizable in his casual shirt, saw me waiting for the Blue Goose that never comes when I need it and offered me a ride……… to the circle (further than he expected to go, I am sure). He looks wonderful and said he had a good time in Ireland where he usually vacations in summer to spend time with the family. He really is not that well, but one would never know it. He hides Parkinson’s disease beautifully. Even though he manages all his priestly duties, along with filling in for the Blue Goose, a few prayers from all of us may help to put that dreaded disease in remission. Thanks for the ride, Monsignor. You are right. You are better than the Blue Goose. Keep it up and you will put them out of business.
Got another lift into Breezy from Larry McKinney, who is married to Alice who lives in Roxbury. He is a NYC Policeman in the 63 Precinct ( my son, Jimmy’s old Precinct). He and Alice have a son. Ryan, 7 and their daughter, Sarah just celebrated her ninth birthday. Coleen’s wedding limo passed us by on the way in.
On the BPSC bocce court the finals were finally played : Men’s sgls. Jim Brady winner; Honeymooners, Anita and Jack Willkinson and Dennis and Gale Driver.
As most of you read in the New Yorker article, Janet, owner of" Studio J" does my nails and she does such a fabulous job! Last week I got so many compliments on her special "Janet’s Design" on each nail, in soft white, pink and silver, two nails topped off with a sparkling Swarovzoff crystal. And this week more raves with a sparkling crystal on a nail on each hand over a gold and silver design. Simply beautiful! If you want to attract attention with gorgeous nails this certainly is the way to do it. And, Janet’s manicures last three weeks.
