Apprentice Craft Laborers Needed
The Joint Apprenticeship Committee for Asbestos, Lead and Hazardous Waste Laborers, Local 78, will conduct recruitment from September 10 through March 10 for 200 skilled construction craft laborer apprentices.
Applications will be available at the local, 30 Cliff Street, sixth floor, New York City, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., every Wednesday. The committee requires that applicants be at least 18 years old, have a high school of general equivalency diploma, be able to lift materials weighing up to 94 pounds, carry for 25 feet, and stack to a height of 54 inches, work at heights of 10 feet or greater and in confined spaces, shovel one-half yard of material into a wheelbarrow, wheel for 30 feet and deposit into a container, take a physical examination, required by OSHA regulations, at the committee’s expense.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans.
