Family Day On Beach Set For August 30
To end the summer season with a day of fun in the sun, City Council Member Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr., Chairman of the Council’s Parks and Recreation Committee and The Depart-ment of Parks and Recreation are encouraging everyone to go to Beach 96 Street and the Boardwalk in Rockaway on Saturday, August 30 (Rain Date Sunday, August 31) be-tween 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. for a free family day of fun at the beach.
Addabbo said that two New York City Parks and Recreation Play and Sport Vans will be there with a variety of games and craft activities including knock hockey tables, checkers and chess sets, beach volleyball, soccer, lacrosse, kick ball, jump ropes, roller-skating, lanyard and necklace making, and face painting. In addition there will be music, a moonwalk and a Jurassic Park obstacle course.
"This should be a great event for the entire family. Rockaway Beach has some of the best beachfront on the entire east coast and should be enjoyed by all", Addabbo stated.
According to Parks Depart-ment officials, over the past six years, the Mobile Unit Pro-gram has become one of the most popular programs run by the City of New York Parks & Recreation Department.
