No Garbage Collection On Labor Day

No Garbage Collection On Labor Day

The New York City Department of Sanitation has announced that, in ob-servance of Labor Day, there will be no garbage or recycling collection, and street cleaning on Monday, September 1.

Residents who receive Monday gar-bage collection should instead place their refuse out at curbside Monday evening, after 5 p.m. for pickup on Tuesday, September 2. Residents who normally receive Monday, "Week B" recycling collection will have their re-cycling material picked up Tuesday, September 2.

Neighborhoods that regularly receive Tuesday garbage collection and Tue-sday "Week B" recycling collection should place their cans or bags out on Monday evening, after 5 p.m., as normal. Residences and commercial es-tablishments that unlawfully leave trash or recyclables or dumpsters at curbside over the holiday weekend are subject to a fine of up to $250. Shop-keepers, restaurant managers, and other merchants who are serviced by private carting companies should contact their refuse haulers to determine whether they will receive collection on the holiday.

All Sanitation Department administrative offices will be closed on Mon-day, September 1 in observance of the holiday. For questions about San-itation services and schedules over the holiday, call the Citizens Service Center at 311 or visit the DSNY website at www.nyc.gov/sanitation.
