Correction Officer Test Announced
Assemblywoman Audrey I. Pheffer recently announced that her office been contacted by the New York State Department of Correctional Services (DCS) to request her assistance with their Department’s Correction Officer recruitment effort.
A competitive exam for the position of New York State Department of Correction Services Correction Officer Trainee — English and Spanish speaking — will be held November 22 at Civil Service testing centers throughout the state. The filing deadline for this examination is September 29.
Assemblywoman Pheffer has a number of applications and fact sheets, which describe the salary and benefits to employees serving in Correction Officer positions. The trainee starting salary begins at $28,444 per year, which, increases after six months to $30,043. After successful completion of the one-year Correction Officer traineeship, the salary increases to $34,742 per year. Appointees in the New York City area will receive an additional $1,200 annual location pay differential/downstate adjustment. A non-refundable $25 filing fee must accompany each application.
At the time of appointment, candidates must be at least 21 years old, be in good physical and mental health, possess a high school diploma or GED and be a U.S. citizen. Convicted felons are automatically disqualified
