Rockaway Development and Re-vitalization Corporation (RDRC) will be hosting their First Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, September 15 at Inwood Country Club in Inwood, NY. Proceeds from the golf tournament will help fund RDRC’s Beacon Program.
The schedule is as follows: registration and buffet brunch will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon, the driving range from 11 a.m. to noon, shotgun start is at 2:30 p.m., a cocktail hour from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and an awards reception beginning at 6:30 p.m.
RDRC is a not-for-profit local development corporation with a mission to promote the revitalization of the community’s economic base and neighborhoods, and assist its residents in obtaining an improved "quality of life."
As one of the programs RDRC offers the Rockaway community’s youth, the Beacon Program is operated at The Reverend Thomas Mason Community Center at Middle School 198 in Arverne. It’s one of 88 citywide "Bea-con" programs first established in 1991 through New York City’s "Safe Street, Safe City" legislation as "safe havens" for community youths.
As a multi-service program, RDRC’s Beacon Program reaches over 1,800 youths and adults by delivering recreational dance/step, drama classes; rec-reational sports, educational-tutoring, computer, GED, ESL, SAT training; and social programs- conflict resolution, mediation sessions, individual group and family counseling.
The tournament fee is $250, which includes green fees, cart, driving range, player amenity package, re-freshments, and awards reception. The fee for the awards reception only is $125. RDRC is in need of local sponsorships in order to help make this fundraising event a success. Those interested should contact RDRC.
