The Return And End Of Connolly’s Softball Season
"Arrivaderci, D-Bags!!" - Grandpa Theis.
It’s been a long time between Oriole Reports, but to put a fitting end to the season we’ll go out with a final update on the boys of orange and black.
This year marked an Oriole milestone; it was the first time in Oriole history our beloved boys of summer did not win a single game. Sorry DiMaggio, that is truly a record that will never be broken!
There were, however, some bright spots in an otherwise putrid season. Not many mind you, but some. Here they are in no particular order...Mike Kelly getting thrown out at first from the outfield. Grogan diving headfirst into first base...and missing it. Spike blowing out what used to be his "good" knee. Rooster’s triumphant return to the diamond, and his strikeout to end the game (with the winning run on second base). Ross returns to softball...then quits three weeks later.
Grogan finds true love...with an Ori-ho...who used to be Spike’s woman. (I’m talking about you, Boxhead). The Goods’, brightening our Sundays with his vibrant personality.
Wierd John...enough said. In conclusion, the 2003 Connolly’s Orioles awards go to: MVP= Chope, Most Improved= Shrek, Worst Umpire= Kenny G., Most Inebriated= Steve Grogan. Thanks to all our fans, and a big shout out to Jeff and KerryAnn for their constant support and generosity! Don’t forget to close out the summer at Connolly’s ...since we didn’t make the playoffs we have more time for boozin’!! HUG AN ORIOLE!!!!!
