Bayfront Crane Draws Stares, Questions

Bayfront Crane Draws Stares, Questions

For weeks now, a large crane working at the bayfront has been drawing stares from motorists on Beach Channel Drive. It has also drawn a number of questions from local residents. Now, it can be told. The Pile Foundation Co., Inc. is in the process of building a bulkhead on Beach Channel Drive between Beach 106 Street and Beach 108 Street. Keyspan Electric donated the land to the city and the bulkhead is being built at the city's expense. The Department of Environmental Conservation has been onsite to ensure that the nearby Superfund site, the former LILCO coal gasification plant across the street from the site, is not contaminating Jamaica Bay.
