New Programs Target Adults At Queens Library

"Tropical Wreath Making," a crafts workshop with Sheila Black, will demonstrate how to create a decorative wreath for summer out of fruits; materials will be supplied. An array of Queens Botanical Garden clinics will be offered on herbs, gardening and houseplants. On Friday, July 25 at 2:00 p.m., the Ravenswood Branch, 35-32 21st Street, Long Island City, host "Healing with Herbs," on what can and cannot be safely used; how to pick and store herbs; medicinal teas, syrups, compresses and poultices, oil and ointments and herbal baths. This program is repeated on Monday, August 4 at 6:00 p.m. at the Flushing Library, 41-17 Main Street, 718-454-7272. You can get tips on "Designing Your Own Herbs Garden" on Friday, August 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the Peninsula Branch, 92-25 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, Rockaway Beach, depending on herb uses and to maximize planting space. Concluding this herbs/gardening series, "Plant Propagation" will be held also at the Hollis Branch on Monday, August 18 at 6:00 p.m. covering how to grow both indoor and outdoor plants via stem and leaf cuttings, layering, division, and a starting-from-seeds demonstration.
