LIRR Summer Getaway
With only one week left in the official long Island summer season, the MTA Long Island Rail Road has two great reasons to spend some time on the East End. The LIRR Getaways for August 23 and 24 include the Montauk Lighthouse and the Hampton Classic equestrian event.
The "Montauk Lighthouse" Getaway takes place on Saturday, August 23. This popular tour includes visits to three distinct sections of this East End community. These include the "ultimate" seaside resort community of Montauk where participants can select from a variety of restaurants for lunch or bring their own food and walk along the beach. You can also dip your feet in the Atlantic or shop in several unique stores. Another stop is the world-famous Montauk Lighthouse located in the 724-acre Montauk Point State Park. Visitors can climb the tower’s 137 spiral steps. A special Lighthouse weekend event includes entertainment, colonial games and craft purchases. The day wraps up with a visit to Gosman’s Dock where participants can choose to watch the fishing fleet return, browse the boutiques or enjoy fresh seafood at an outdoor clam bar or a restaurant overlooking Montauk Harbor.
The cost of this Getaway is $45 for adults, $35 for children 5-11. This tour is also offered September 27.
To make connections with the train, it departs from Jamaica at 8:16 a.m.
