Rockapulco Ends In Grand Fashion By John Edwards

Despite the rain, last Friday’s finale to the series was well attended by harriers of all ages and abilities. The post race party and fundraiser was also a big hit. A special thanks to the Belle Harbor yacht club, Ludwigs Caterers, Its All Good, Silk Screeners, D.J. Tom Touhey, the Registration Crew, the NYPD, the Parks Dept. and Lou Vasquez. The dedication of the weekly regulars gave us a core of strong, fast runners, (we had 53 finishers under the 8 minute pace) many of whom donated generously of themselves.

The top awards went to: Overall Men- 1) Matt Redden, 18, 16:58 2) Jim McVeigh, 45, 17:37 3) Jim Hayden, 15, 17:49 Overall Women: 1) Kathleen Coughlin, 36, 18:35 2) Meg Edwards, 19, 19:56, 3) Cristin Mullen, 18, 20:11

For 9 year old Steve (The Wild Man) Pulkowski, to the heavily into it Pat McVeigh, to the ageless Freddy, to the competitive Bert Robbins, to the great Bob Davan, it was all Rockapulco. See you in the first Thursday in June 2004.
