Former Rockaway Resident
Ann Arthurs, who lived in Rockaway for more than 25 years, passed away on July 12 in Fla. Her passing follows a four-year-long battle with cancer.
Arthurs was preceded in death by her daughter Kellie Petrano and her granddaughter Sarah Jo Petrano.
She is survived by her daughter Michelle Asti; son Robert Laurain; daughter-in-law Helen Laurain, son-in-law Michael Petrano; grandchildren Brett Asti, Kerry Ann Laurain, Ryan Laurain and Samantha Petrano. She is also survived by a host of friends.
A memorial service was held on July 17, in Fla.
Rhakeem J. Bibbs, who lived in Rockaway for most of his life, passed away on July 5. He was 28.
Bibbs was born in Queens and worked as a laborer.
He was preceded in death by his parents Diana Lynn Bibbs and Benjamin Cummings.
Bibbs is survived by his children Kaishawn, Rashaun, Ryana, Tiana, Rhakeem, Jr., Javant'e; sisters Sharell Wise, Jasimen Washington and Fatisha Pinkney; brother Jamel Cummings; and fiancée Tashara Samuels.
A funeral mass was held at Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Friendship Chapel. Interment at All Saints Cemetery. Supervised by Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home.
Home Health Aide
Daphne Felicia Douglas, a Rockaway resident for over 15 years, passed away on July 12. She was 74.
Douglas, who was born in Guyana, worked as a home health aide.
She is preceded in death by her mother Catherine Sturge; father Franklin Fraser; sister Olga Earle; and granddaughter Janea Jeffrey.
Douglas is survived by her husband Byrnell; children Brenda, Laverne, Bernel, Clyde, Suzette and Sherwin; sons-in-law Dennis, Oslin and Edmond; daughters-in-law Theresa, Carolina and Yulena; brothers Frankie, Samuel, Andrew and Audley; sister Bernice Myrtle "Babsie" and Faye; grandchildren; and best friend and cousin Sheila.
A funeral mass was held at Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Friendship Chapel. Interment was at Pinelawn Cemetery in Farmingdale. Supervised by Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home.
Catherine Ellerby, 70, a resident of Rockaway for 23 years, died on June 26. She was a domestic and a member of the First Baptist Church in Far Rockaway.
Ellerby was preceded in death by sisters Cicero Smith, Ella Pearl Spears Davis and Louise Davis and brothers Aldrothy, Emmanuel and Lincon Ellerby. She is survived by her mother, Vastie K. Ellerby; son Daniel P. Ellerby; sisters Mary M. Johnson and Vassie May Crawford; brothers William, James, Lonnie, Collie and John Ellerby; and niece Claretha, along with a host of family and friends.
Mass was at the First Baptist Church with interment at the Nassau Knolls Cemetery. Supervised by Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home.
Breezy Point Hardware Mgr.
Beatrice A. Kearney, a Rockaway Point resident for 50 years, passed away on July 19.
Kearney, who was born in Brooklyn, was a manager at Breezy Point Hardware. She was a parishioner at St. Thomas More.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Kearney, and by two brothers killed in World War II: James and John McCormick.
She is survived by her sons Rusty, Timothy, Tommy and Kerry Kearney, and by six grandchildren.
Theodore J. Marshall
Theodore J. Marshall, a Belle Harbor resident for more than 10 years, passed away on July 20.
Marshall was born in Manhattan, and was a parishioner at St. Francis de Sales. He worked as a general foreman for the Brooklyn Union Gas Company.
Marshall is survived by his wife Mildred (nee Wilfert) Marshall; daughter Karen Kelly; son Peter Marshall and his wife Katie; brothers Edward, Norman and Thomas Marshall; grandchildren Zachary and Connor Kelly, and P.J., Kaitlin and Kelly Marshall.
Visitation was held at the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home.
Interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
Gail Lynn McCreary, a nursing aide who lived in Rockaway for over thirty years, died on July 5. She was 56.
McCreary is preceded in death by her mother Marietta Blash, her brother Brian Anthony and Nephew Troy Anthony. She is survived by her son Erik (Cindy), father Jesse Williams; brother Jessie Anthony; sister April Anthony; grands Stacy, Erik, Sean; Donavan; Tyrell and Erika; nieces Jill, Tennille and Rachel Anthony; sisters-in-law Margaret and Gretchen Anthony, best friend Linda Leach and a host of family and friends.

Anne L. McMahon
Former Long-Time Resident
Anne L. McMahon, formerly of Rockaway for more than 50 years, passed away in St. Petersburg, Fla. on June 28. She was 91.
McMahon, born in South Bend, Ind., was a member of St. Camillus Church. She also belonged to the Rosary Society and Golden Age Club.
McMahon was preceded in death by her husband Vincent , of nearly 60 years.
She is survived by four daughters, Helene Hardick, RoseAnn Molkentin, Kathleen McFarren and Eileen Stafford; five granddaughters, one grandson and five great grandchildren.
Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, St. Petersburg, Fla.
Edward J. Olstrom
Edward J. Olstrom, a five year Rockaway Park resident, passed away on July 13.
Olstrom, who was born in Manhattan, was a retired Teamster, Local Union 863.
He was preceded in death by his father John Olstrom and brother Robert Olstrom.
He is survived by his mother Florence Olstrom; son John Olstrom; sisters Theresa Foy, Joan Heaney and Sis O'Kane and Patricia Olstrom; brother James Olstrom; and a brother Richard Olstrom.
Funeral arrangements were kept private.
Craig T. Palisi
Sheet Metal Worker
Craig T. Palisi, a Rockaway Beach resident for more than 35 years, died on July 15.
Palisi, who was born in Rockaway, was a parishioner at St. Rose of Lima. He worked in construction and was a sheet metal worker.
He was preceded in death by his mother Bridget Palisi.
He is survived by his father Salvatore Palisi; brothers Brad and Scott Palisi and grandmother Betty Britton.
Visitation was held at the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home.
Interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Beryl Edwardine Samuels, a resident of Rockaway for about thirty years, died on July 5. She was 83.
Samuels is preceded in death by her parents, Gussie and Louisa Bowen. She is survived by her children, Gloria, George, Denis, Jocelyn, Adrian and Carl; in-laws Sheila, Jennifer and Cheryl;grands Roger Sr. Michelle, Cindy, Carl Jr. Melissa, Khai, Jame, Abena and Cheryl; nine great-grands; and her sister Una Hall.

Donetta Wilson, a longtime resident of Rockaway who worked at Peninsula Hospital, died on June 27. She was 48.
Wilson is survived by her children Demond and Amira; sisters Veronica, Paulette and Amy Royal; brother Paul Royal; grands Jahquel and Jahteek Jenkins and Kyana and Mariah Wilson; aunts Willie May Woods and Margaret Going and a host of family and friends.
