Subway surfer Jane Dascalos of Brooklyn waits for the train to Rockaway Park at the Rockaway Boulevard station. With pretty smile and portable board she might be suspected as a relative of “the Duke” (Duke Kahanamoku, father of American surfing). She surfs once a week in Rockaway and enjoys the sport. Jane is just one of the many surfers who come by subway to enjoy the waves in Rockaway. Surfing in Rockaway has become a catch-as-catch-can thing with police enforcing city rules against “flotation devices” on city beaches.
