Stan Gelda:  Installed as President at the West End Temple

Congratulations to Stan and Elaine Gelda on the occasion of Stan being installed as the President of the West End Temple.

Gelda brings to this position his inclusive leadership style and a lifetime of experience.  Stan and Elaine have been residents of the Rockaways since November 1963.  He has been a very active member of the West End Temple where he has held many key positions.  He served as President previously from 1978 to 1980, as Vice President from 1976 to 1978, as Treasurer intermittently for seven years and as a Trustee since 1968.  His current term as President will run from June 2003 to 2005.  He has spent his time since 1963 being a guiding force to the Temple, providing pro bono guidance and overseeing daily operations for decades.

Stan graduated from New York University in 1950 with a BA in biology and chemistry and continued his graduate work at City College of the City University of New York.  He graduated from the MBA program and is a CPA.  The MBA program at City College is a very demanding one and has very high academic standards for graduation.  We are fortunate to have Stan Gelda as a resource in our community.

Stan Gelda is a born leader.  He is a visionary whose personal warmth and outgoing personality attract others to seek to work with him.  He has a strong commitment to his family, his temple, his profession and his community.  Stan is a leader with demonstrated competence, effectiveness and accomplishments.  Stan is willing to devote his time and talent to serving others.

The West End Temple has elected the following slate of officers to lead the Temple for the next two years:  Stan Gelda, President; Marsha Weaver, Vice President; Jeffrey Zweifler, 2nd Vice President; Rowena Schwab, 3rd Vice President; Charles Thau, Treasurer; Chaya Kirchan, Secretary; and the following to serve on the Board of Trustees:  Emily Cennamo, Dr. Stephanie Cooper Vastola, Lawrence Cushner, Howard Eisenberg, Elaine Gelda, Cathy Goldsmith, Mindy Trepel Harnisch, Rose Klein, Sylvan Klein, Lyn Kramberg, Anne Levine, Lois Mayer, Robert Mayer, Shirley Paris, David Ribet, Louis Rosenberg, Judith Rothman, Judith Rubin, Harold Schwab, Dr. Frederic Sherman, Dr. John Shure, Edward Spierer, Florence Spierer and Jack Sternglass.

At the installation, Stuart Rauch served as the music director.  His is a very talented and artistically creative director.  His music adds depth and meaning to the services.

Rabbi May gave inspirational, uplifting and forward looking remarks.  He praised the contributions of Stan Gelda and welcomed the new officers. He warmly welcomed Jacob Menaged who had studied the Torah with him and was preparing for his Bar Mitzvah - the day after the installation ceremony.

The services were followed by an Oneg Shabbat in the Sylvane Room, sponsored by Rose Anne and Errol Menaged in honor of their son Jacob’s Bar Mitzvah and Elaine and Stanley Gelda in honor of the Installation of the new Officers and Trustees

I wish Stan and Elaine Gelda every success as they begin this endeavor.  Stan Gelda brings to this position talent, determination, capability and his excellent people skills.  These are the ingredients that are needed to lead the West End Temple to continued success and prosperity.

I also send every best wish to the new Officers and to the Trustees of the West End Temple as they embark on the next two years.

The West End Temple has always been a vital force in our neighborhood.
