B-Ball Stars Battles For Nike’s King of The Court
New York’s top streetballers have the opportunity to catapult themselves into the spotlight during Nike’s Battlegrounds 2003 national streetball challenge. The event, which will crown a local king in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New York and Chicago will stop in New York July 18 and 26 (7 p.m. both days).
With an elite group of 32 participants, the second annual one-on-one tournament pits the best-of-the-best in caged courts with giant flames shooting into the night sky battling for pride, the charity of their choice, $10,000 in cash, a one-year NIKE gear contract, a billboard featuring his likeness erected above his home court and a trip to the finals in New York, August 9th for a chance to be crowned ‘King of Kings’ and receive the $25,000 grand prize. In addition, NIKE will donate an additional $5,000 to player’s charity.
The first round (32 to 8) is taking place Friday, July 18 at 7 p.m. at an undisclosed underground location and the second (Elite 8), July 26th from Fulton Ferry State Park in Brooklyn. Take the A train to High Street and the court is near the Brooklyn Bridge and the Brooklyn promenade. 32 of the city’s top ballers will compete for the title of "King of the Court" in N.Y.
