FRHS Prom To Be Held 34 Years Late By Mara Lander

The graduates of Far Rockaway High School class of 1970 happily announce their long awaited senior prom. Thirty-Four years ago the class of 1970 decided against having a senior prom, as it seemed inappropriate in the Vietnam era. But a group of the alumni has decided it is never too late.

Many of the graduates of the class of 1970 have been in touch over the internet, at FRHS70@yahoo.com, and have begun making arrangements to hold a prom for their graduating class, 34 years later. The prom is slated to be held at Lawrence Country Club on May 1, 2004. Prom goers can expect everything that they may have missed 34 years ago, including dancing, dining, and of course, the crowning of a prom king and queen.

There will be a 300-person limit. Tickets will cost $150 per person. Deposits of $50 are being accepted. The prom will be open to graduates of Far Rockaway High School classes from 1965-1972. Arrangements will be made for out of town guests, and coordinators are hoping for a large response. Alumni interested in attending the prom should contact Shari Horne at Obythesea@aol.com.
