Smith Sponsors Health Fair On July 26
State Senator Malcolm A. Smith is co- sponsoring a Health Fair on Saturday, July 26 with the Far Rockaway Church of Christ and Health Plus. The event will take place from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the church, located at 21-25 Nameoke Avenue in Far Rockaway.
This event is part of Smith’s continued focus on H.E.E.T., his acronym for health care, education, economic development, and technology.
"This should prove to be a fun way for residents to learn more about their own health and the care that is available to them through Health Plus," said Smith. "Events such as these are not only informative, they are critical to the well-being of the community."
The following organizations will be participating in the fair: St. John’s Episcopal Hospital; New York Medical and Diagnostic Center; Doctors Speaker Bureau; the New York City Department of Health; Health Plus; New York City Fire Department, and the New York City Registration Commission.
The fair will feature free health exams, including blood pressure, asthma, and scoliosis screenings. There will also be glucose testing (for diabetes), neurological and orthopedic exams; postural and spinal structural analysis, and educational demonstrations.
In addition, the following topics will be addressed: lead poisoning prevention; AIDS awareness; senior care; prostate and breast health awareness; and nutrition. Access-A-Ride and voter registration information will also be distributed.
"I encourage my constituents to attend this event," said Smith. "It’s a great opportunity to learn ways to become more health-conscious and live more healthy lives."
