Pfc. James Rashawn Raynor, a former resident of St. John’s Home for Boys, has finished the U.S. Army’s basic training course in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. The One Station Unit Training Graduation is scheduled to take place August 1. St. John’s Executive Director Brother Thomas Trager plans to attend the ceremonies.
While in basic training, Pfc. Raynor distinguished himself by earning the Physical Training patch andthe designation of Sharpshooter. He will most likely be trained as a Chemical Specialist. Pfc. Raynor attended Beach Channel High School, where he was on the football and track teams. After graduation in 2001, he undertook some college studies and worked for the U.S. Parks Department at Riis Park/Ft. Tilden.
"Bogus, as James was affectionately known, is a fine young man with a positive spirit and a generous disposition. He is always eager to help and was a great ‘big brother’ for the younger boys in residence at St. John’s," according to Brother Trager.
Immediately following graduation, Raynor will spend his August leave in Rockaway Park while residing at St. John’s. He is due to report to Fort Hood in Texas at the end of August.
