Project Liberty Seeks Quilters

Project Liberty Seeks Quilters

Project Liberty and the Greater New York Hospital Association Disaster Relief Fund Programs based at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital South Shore are assembling a patchwork quilt in memory of the upcoming second anniversaries of September 11 and the crash of Flight 587. They are asking community residents and organizations to create their own quilt patches, which will be sewn together and donated to the new World Trade Center site.

"Over the past two years, we have had the opportunity to get to know many Rockaway residents and we are awed by the strength and resilience they have demonstrated," said Teri Coyle, Project Liberty Program Supervisor. "We would like the quilt to be a symbol of that strength and courage."

The programs are accepting 8 inch by 8-inch patches. Patches may be submitted to one of the following locations by July 31, 2003:

Your nearest firehouse;

St. John’s Episcopal Hospital Community Day Treatment Program,
19-08 Brookhaven Avenue, Far Rockaway, NY  11691;

St. John’s Episcopal Hospital Community Mental Health Center, 521 Beach 20th Street, Far Rockaway, NY  11691;

The Graybeards, 468 Beach 129th Street, Belle Harbor, NY  11694.
