Harbor Optics Celebrates 15 Years
Harbor Optics celebrated 15 years of serving eye care needs in Rockaway with a recent "all welcome" party. The event featured fun-rides, food and merchandise displays.
"We wanted to give back to our customers," said Carol DeNaro, who, along with her husband Scott, owns the store. Carol called the turnout "great."
Harbor Optics opened for business after Scott, who was born, raised and schooled on the peninsula, decided that he wanted to be in business for himself—in Rockaway. The result is a successful retail store where, he says, customers are able to check out many styles—and see how they look.
Three years ago the DeNaro’s relocated their business to a new spot along the bay. "We dumped every penny of our life savings in to the building," Carol said. Their move rehabilitated a run-down section of Beach Channel Drive where a gas station used to operate, while giving them about three times the space.
Their gamble is paying off. The DeNaro’s, who live in Belle Harbor, recently told The Wave that their customers number more than thirty thousand and come from near and far.
