Sunset Concerts 2003

Here we are again looking forward to a great summer and as usual R.M.A.C. has an exciting lineup of concerts at Gateway-Ft. Tilden.

Thanks to the generosity of Chase-Morgen Bank who is once again supporting our series in part, and lots of hard work by R.M.A.C., we continue to bring free performances of a diverse selection of great artists to Rockaway.

The season opener on July 29th was one of Long Island’s hottest country western groups, "The Roadhouse Band." They played all the country classics with great style. How about that Dancin’ too? Great fun.

This Sunday July 13th we are proud to present the magnificent "Long Island Pops Orchestra" under the baton of maestro Dean Karahalis. The finest musicians will be playing the classical repertoire and this year the great music of Broadway and Hollywood. You just might hear "Phantom" don’t miss this one.

Our next concert is slated for Sunday July 27th. Back again after last year’s incredible performance "A Tribute to Frank Sinatra."

As we all know the chairman of the board is the benchmark for all other vocalists, and continues to be a legend in his own time and beyond. We are fortunate to have a singer like "Jerry Cardone" with us. Not only is Jerry a great fan of Franks but has also devoted a singing career perpetuating the one of a kind "Sinatra" style, which Jerry executes with amazing phrasing, manners and intonation. Jerry Cardone is keeping it alive. Backing Jerry’s vocals is the wonderful "Danny Vincent" orchestra. If you’re a Sinatra devotee, you won’t be disappointed.

Sunday August 10th is a repeat of one of the most successful performances we have had the pleasure of presenting, "Cherish the Ladies." And what a stunning group of Ireland they are. These lassies are the real thing. The female answer to the likes of other renowned Irish legends; "The Chieftans" and "The Wolftones" to name a few. They sing with great passion and sauciness too. It should be a hell of an Irish night.

Our last concert is on Sunday August 24th, "Ball in the House." Six guys, six voices, that’s it. "Ball in the House" is a Boston based group. They make the art of singing seem easy. They have no instruments, but their voices do it all. Guitars, drums, string, etc. come alive. A tasty mélange of classic street corner soul, funk, doo wop and pop. In A cappella style. A blend of voices that is just perfection.

In order for R.M.A.C. to continue these wonderful concerts, public support is vital. Please become a member of R.M.A.C. on any level. You’ll receive our newsletter, discounts to special events, and most of all, contribute to our cultural goals in Rockaway.

Come out and enjoy our "Free Sunset Concerts." All performances are at 6 p.m. on Sundays – Gateway National Recreation Area – Ft. Tilden, Rockaway. Bring your beach chairs and dinner and most of all family and friends. This is John Musumeci signing off until next time.
