St. Virgilius Advances To Championship Game

The BCAC/St. Virgilius girls’ 8th grade softball team advanced to the CYO championship game after two hard fought victories this past weekend. On Saturday, June 21 against a very tough Sacred Heart team, BCAC, with only nine girls won a thrilling 21-19 extra inning game. Leading 13-4, St. Virgilius gave up 12 runs in the second inning to go down 16-13. Adrienne Guttieri came on to pitch and shut down Sacred Heart over the next six innings by giving up only three runs, while striking out 11.

The girls advanced to the semi-finals on Sunday, June 22 against a undefeated St. Kevins team. Once again, Adrienne Guttieri pitched a gem striking out 16 batters in 7 innings. St Virgilius advanced to the finals with a 4-0 victory. Hitting stars for St. Virgilius were Nicole Riscigno, Danielle Malone, Stephanie Galimi, Tiffany Ott, Deanna Glade, Allyssa Lonnborg, Allison Zeller, Christy Rustico, Brianna Warner, Adrienne Guttieri. The girls have come a long way and deserves a shot at the championship this Saturday, June 18th at 10:30 a.m. at P.S. 213 on 233 Street and 67 Avenue.
