The Rockaway Artists Alliance is hosting its fourth annual multi-media arts event in the months of September and October 2003 at Fort Tilden. ARTSPLASH 2003 is presented in partnership with the National Park Service/ Gateway National Recreation Area. Visual artists of all media, literary and performing artists are invited to participate. This is a juried show. Sculpture, photography, fine arts, dance, video, poetry, ceramics, music, theater, and performance will all be considered for this extravaganza. RAA’s sTudio 6, sTudio7, outdoor stage, sculpture garden and the surrounding park will be utilized. Performing artist participants will form the framework of special events, both indoor and outdoor. A $250 award will be presented for excellence. The award winner will be chosen from all ARTSPLASH 2003 participants.

Juror for ARTSPLASH 2003 is Tom Finkelpearl, MFA, Executive Director of the Queens Museum of Art. Formerly, he was a curator and Deputy Director at P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center, Director of the Clock tower Gallery and Director of the Percent for Art Program at NYC Department of Cultural Affairs.

August 11 is the deadline for receipt of entries for ARTSPLASH, so contact RAA ASAP if you wish to participate. The exhibition dates are September 20-October 26.

This is the final weekend to see RAA’s member photography exhibit "Through the Lens" and "Unbroken," the photographs taken by street children and refugees in Nepal, Afghanistan and Vietnam. The images of "Unbroken" are a powerful testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit. If you have put off attending these exhibits because of the weather, you have postponed a very special experience. This is your last chance before they are gone. Come to Fort Tilden, studio 6 and sTudio 7 Galleries on Saturday 12-5 p.m. or Sunday 1-4 p.m. Admission is free.

Upcoming is "Local Motion," the sports of Fort Tilden, Rockaway…and beyond. Exhibition dates are July 19-August 31.
