Sanders Scores Big Victory For MWBE Community
Mayor Bloomberg has announced that he has issued an Executive Order restoring affirmative act ion politics in procurement procedures of all city agencies. This will aid in giving Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE) equitable access in securing city contracts.
A very enthusiastic crowd received the Mayor’s announcement. However, none were more pleased than Councilman James Sanders, Jr., Chair of Economic Development. He spearheaded the drive to restore affirmative action policies. It was one of his top priorities.
Sanders is thrilled, and he feels that this is a victory for our city. "Permanent economic recovery demands that all of our citizens be included in the process. Affirmative action embraces the MWBE community and give them a much needed injection of hope."
The Mayor was praised by Sanders for his steady course and good faith negotiations, which resulted in a step that will benefit small businesses and create jobs in our respective communities. Sanders ended by saying, "This is a historic day, though there are clouds in the sky, I see only sun and hope." The Executive Order for Affirmative Action takes effect immediately.
