Rockaway Nights At KeySpan Park Set
The Peninsula Hospital Center will once again sponsor a Rockaway Night at KeySpan Park in Coney Island, the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones.
Breaking with tradition, however, there will be two nights at KeySpan this summer when Rockaway residents can enjoy the championship team and help the hospital Oncology Unit at the same time.
"The Cyclones are sold out again this year even before the season begins," says Nancy Vardakis, the event’s coordinator. "This might be the only chance many Rockaway residents get to see the Mets farm club."
Vardakis points out that both games are against the Cyclone’s archrival, the Staten Island Yankees, a New York Yankee farm club.
On Wednesday, July 16, the hospital will host 350 local fans in the park’s bleacher area. A donation of $15 to the Peninsula Hospital Center will entitle you to a bleacher seat.
On Friday, August 1, the hospital will host 200 fans in the grandstand as well as 300 fans in the bleachers.
Those who donate $25 to the hospital center will be entitled to a grandstand seat, while those who donate $20 will be entitled to a bleacher seat for the weekend game.
Those interested in supporting the event for either game should do so by using the coupon in the advertisement in this week’s Wave or send your ticket order with a check for their donation to Peninsula Baseball Night, care of Peninsula Hospital Center, 51-15 Beach Channel Drive, Far Rockaway, New York 11691.
"Last year, we sold out our tickets early and had to return many orders," Vardakis says. "We urge everybody to order early if they want to see the game."
"This is the first time we were able to get a game against the Yankees," Vardakis added. "It’s very exciting."
