It is national dog awareness month and there are many rules for R ockaway residents to remember if they do not want to get ticketed by the police.
Among other things State Law requires all dogs to be licensed and NYC Health Code requires all dogs to have a dog tag license attached to their collar.
All dogs and cats older than three months of age must have a rabies vaccination and receive booster vaccinations at appropriate intervals, also according to the NYC Health Code.
In public, dogs must be restrained by a leash not more than 6 feet long.
Perhaps most relevantly at the moment, Health Law also requires owners to clean up after their dogs and prohibits allowing "nuisance" conditions to exist.
