Papa’s Pizza Minor League Girls won their last three games and raised their record to 5-2.

The May 30th game against Rockaway Rotary yielded a 17-4 win and each player hot an RBI. Lisa Pulkoske picked up her first double and scoed, while Kyra Meli put her energy into 4 hits, scoring three runs and combined with Rebecca Moers for terrfici defense in their Shortstop/3B combo. Kaitlin Twomey garnered three hits and scored a run. Casey Collins secured three hits and scored twice. Erin Tacopina covered first base for her first time, proving herself a worthy defensive player as well as batter b picking up two runs on her two hits. Catherine Murphy showed that a careful at bat can prove frutiful as she turned her two walks into two runs. She also secured multiple outs at 2B.

All of the girls played wonderfully as a team with drive, spirit and sportsmanship. The game on June 3 was won under threatening skies with 14 players present for Papa’s Pizza and only two players present for Cross County. Following a 15-20 minute wait, Papa’s won by forfeit.

On June 8, Papa’s Pizza won 8-0 over Plum Tomatoes was as sweet as a tasty pizza. Taylor Conroy showed her pitching finesse by securing 10 strikeouts and fielding 3 from the mound for outs to Annette Scotto at 1B. Annette also proved herself a formidable offensive player with a run, walk and a three run homer. Lisa Pulkoski was patient at the plate and scored a run on a walk.

Kyra Meli at short and Rebecca Moers at 3B, demonstrated their formidable defense with their usual high energy. Kristen Sluyk smacked a good shot, scoring off her single. Catherine Murphy scored off a sweet double and protected 2B. Mary Ameruso gave her opponents something to talk about with her 4-foot hit that nearly gave her a homer after the other team made multiple errors. Though she missed home plate by a half inch, she learned her lesson well. All of the girls who participated played wonderfully as a team with drive, spirit and sportsmanship. The sauce was sweet!
