Have you caught the Jimmy Kimmel Show lately? I happened to flip it on and lo and behold!, there was Helene Danzilo and hubby Peter next to her . Helene looked just adorable as she puckered up to the camera as it focused on her. Yes, she and Peter, when out in LA to visit daughter Christine, were audience guests at Jimmy Kimmel’s very entertaining show, on a bit late, 12:06, Ch. 7 in New York, Mon. to Fri. As a real guest, interviewed by Kimmel was Ernie Barry. Of course, most of you remember Ernie, the talented singer, pianist, accordionist who has entertained in many restaurants and nightclubs throughout the boroughs for many years. His son, as I mentioned in a previous column, is one of the top writers for Jimmy Kimmel. If you are up that late, can’t sleep or wake up, click him on. You’ll enjoy it.

From LA the Danzilo’s went to Vegas and met Noreen Schramm, publisher of the Rockaway Point News with hubby, Dan who were staying at Mandalay Bay. They all dined with Uncle Frank (from the Jimmy Kimmel Show) and had a great time. Isn’t it nice we now have a local star celebrity in our midst?

The Sugar Bowl has been renovated and the first big event was the Christening of little Madison Rachael Brugger, baby daughter of Keri and James Brugger and sister to 3 year old Billy James. Proud grandparents

Claire and Robert Timmons, whose recently expired brother, owned the Sugar Bowl, were on board for the happy occasion along with grand aunt, Patty and grand uncle, Bobby Crowley, their daughter, Nicole and the whole Ritter and Brugger family (around 100 guests). Music, drinks and food catered by the Shore Supermarket. Great time!

Frank Gallagher, owner of Snug Harbor, one of Rockaway’s top restaurants, is on his way home from several weeks of R&R at his condo in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla..

At the Finnish Consulate I learned about the Nordic Walk and was very impressed. If you see me walking with two ski pole like sticks you will know the Nordic Walk. It will balance your spine, strengthen your muscles, build your upper chest and arm area, and trim your tummy while building a healthier you. Catch my TV segments next week on UHF Ch. 35 at 12:30pm for a demonstration. If you are interested in becoming an instructor in Belle Harbor, Breezy Point or the Rockaways or anywhere, let me know.

Last week’s Safe Horizon hot line needs correction. Call 1-800-621-HOPE if you find yourself or a child in an abusive situation and are filled with fear and hopelessness. Keep the number in a safe place. You never know when you my need it.

Christopher Cerf, creative producer of Emmy Award winning program, "Between the Lions" and also , among other things, an author, record producer, editor, songwriter, humorist and educational consultant received the 2003 Distinguished Children’s Media Achievement Award at the National Center for Learning Disabilities 26th Anniversary Dinner last week at the Marriott Marquis. Mark Griffin, PHD and head master of Eagle Hill School in Connecticut committed to educating children with learning disabilities and serves on the board of NCLD received the Presidents Award. Majorie Scardino was honored for the 2003 Spirit of Achievement.

Ann Ford, former Chairman of the Board of NCLD from 1989 to 2002 was instrumental in establishing a Washington, DC office and presenting educational summits on learning disabilities, spoke of the difficulties of those who are trying to overcome LD and how her book Laughing Allegra was written for parents who are faced, as she was, with a learning disabled child. A silent auction was held of children’s painting and here is a poetry. Here is a poem written by one of the LD children : Caitlyn Murphy, Killian Oaks Academy, Miami, Fla.

Love is not a toy, to roll around and yank it up and down,

It isn’t made to be bent out of shape

Or knocked through a hole like hammering pegs.

Love is not remote controlled

You can’t do what you want or drive it where you want it to go.

Love cannot be kicked around, like a soccer ball.

Before you know it you’re in the

Rain with melted chocolates and
wilted roses because you toyed with love.
