On May 22, Archbishop Molloy High School celebrated its Student Athlete Award’s Night. Six hundred and thirty-one awards were given to the athletes from 34 teams. Many of our hard-working Rockaway students are on these teams.

Some highlights: Basketball - The Varsity Girls team won the New York State class "C" championships in Glens Falls, in their second Varsity season. The Varsity Boys team reached the city semi-finals. The Freshmen Boys team reached the city title game, and the JV team was quarterfinalists. The Girl’s JV were Diocesan semi-finalists, finishing with a 17-5 record.

Both the Varsity and Junior Varsity Bowling teams won the City Championships. The Golf team is 14- 0 and Varsity Boy’s Baseball team is 20 - 3 heading into the citywide playoffs.

In Track, the Freshmen Girls won the Track Outdoor City Championships; the Varsity Boys were the diocesan champs in the indoor season, and the girl’s won their first plaque at the Penn Relays.

The Varsity Boys Soccer team won the Brooklyn/Queens Championships and reached the semi-finals of the city playoffs. Our JV team reached the finals of the city playoffs before falling in a shootout. Our Girls Varsity soccer team had their first year in varsity competition playing in the tough Long Island Division.

The Girls Varsity Volleyball Team had their first year of varsity competition as well. The Girls JV team reached the semi-finals of the Diocesan Playoffs. The Ice Hockey Team continued their development, winning their first "B" division regular season championship and reaching the semifinals of the city playoffs. The Handball Team reached the semifinals of the "B" Playoffs.

The Freshmen Swimming Team took second place in their duel meet season and in the Freshman City Championship Meet. The Boys Varsity Swimming Team came in third place in their duel meet season and in the Varsity City Championships. The Girls Varsity Swimming Team started in their first year of Varsity at Molloy and won a division championship. They were ranked third in the city.

The Tennis team reached the playoffs for the 3rd consecutive year in the difficult City Wide "A" Division. They wait for an invitation to the Mayor’s Cup Tournament, which is for the elite tennis teams of the city.

Andrew O’Connor won the Archbishop Molloy Senior Athlete award. He has cleared 16’ in the pole vault. Andrew has earned All America status and is the New York State Catholic Record Holder. As a memento, all senior athletes received a Molloy watch for all of their hard work and dedication.

Kelly, Brian (V Basketball) scored 11 points and 7 assists vs. McClancy – Basketball Senior Academic Award. Will attend Kings Point.


Connor, Kristen (V Soccer/V Softball/V Basketball) V. Basketball was Federation Champs. In Softball, the varsity team took first place for the first time in their division but lost in the BQ semifinals.

Cuismani, Katie (V Soccer) Led the team to a hard played season as a defensive starter.

Diffendale, Lauren (V XC/Track) Holds school record for the 600m, 800m, 1000m and the mile for the indoor season; school records for the 400IH, 800 and steeple chase in the outdoor season.

Hartigan, Maureen (V Soccer) Co-Captain of soccer team- led team in assists and is one of the top scorers. (Scored 1st girl’s basket 11/00)

Hurley, Sue (V Softball/V Volleyball) Captain of both Softball and Volleyball. Plays 3rd base in softball, which took 1st place in their division in Queens. Beat TMLA and St. Francis Prep after 3-way tie for first. They lost in the BQ semifinals.

Keenan, Patricia (V XC/Track) XC best Ursuline Invitational-17:59. Holds the school record for the 4x800 at Varsity Indoor Cities-placed in the 3000m at Brooklyn/Queens Championship.

Kelleher, Jen (V Track/V Basketball) Starter for the varsity basketball team and led the team to a hard earned Class "C" Federation Championship victory. She had 8 pts and 17 rebounds in a playoff game.

Kelley, Deirdre (V Swimming) Captain of swimming team, B Division Champions. Swam 100m Breastroke in 1:24.84 at the Championship Meet.

Kimball, Jackie (V Soccer) Co-Captain of Girl’s Varsity Soccer and starting goalie. She was chosen for All Long Island Team as the goalie.

Judge, Kevin (V Golf) shot 38 vs. St Johns Prep at Bergen Point.

Roberts, Ryan (V Baseball) Went 2-4 w/run scored against Xaverian at Keyspan.


Dushock, Brian (V Tennis) First Singles – compiled a 7 – 3 record with wins over Regis/Fordham/SFP.

Elfant, Bryan (V Hockey) Scored 5 goals against Christ the King in Brooklyn/Queens at Flushing Meadows.

Fortuna, Amy (JV Softball, V Track) – Leadoff batter – led team in stolen bases.

Fuchs, Brianne (V Track) BQ Varsity 3rd place finish – Javelin.

Hoppkins, Maggie (JV Soccer) first year on the team and helped lead the team to a hard played season.

Kelly, Kenny (JV Basketball) Avg. 16 pts per game. Had 28 Pts in a win against St. Raymond’s.

Knee, Harrison (V Hockey) Goalie – Shutout St Joseph By the Sea @ The Ice Hutch.

MacSaveny, Alan (V Track/JV Soccer) Came in 2nd place in steeplechase and 2 mile at Varsity Boys Sectionals for track.

O’Neill, Katie (V Swimming) She swam a 100 Fly (1:14) 200 I.M. (2:32)

Roehling, Jesse (Golf "B") # 3 Man – Shot 49 @ Mill River CC vs. St Mary’s

Spaddaro, Marissa (V Swimming) She is the only distance swimmer from Rockaway. She swam 500 Freestyle in 6:27.07 at Championship Meet.

Warren, Adele (JV Soccer/ Hurdles) She was a JV Soccer Captain. Scorer for hurdles at the cities.


Baylosis, Justin (F Basketball F XC) He scored 25 points vs. McClancy – led the Freshmen to the City Championship Game.

Biddiscombe, Alexandra (F XC, JV Basketball/ V Golf) First Girl on Varsity Golf. Won first match against St.Mary’s.

Boggiano, Jenna (V Soccer, V Track) Scored 1st goal of varsity season vs. Kellenberg, School record for girls 55m dash- 7.8 sec.

Carnacchio, Anthony (JV Baseball F Basketball) Led the Freshmen Basketball team to City Championship which they lost to St. Raymond’s. He starts on both Baseball and Basketball

Calder, Lauren (Swimming) Swam 50 Backstroke in 35.4 and 50 Freestyle in 29.91

Kelly, Kathleen (J.V. Softball) Had Grand slam & 3 hits vs. Stella Maris

Killian, Patricia (Swimming) She swam 50 Breastroke- 36.16

Lee, Alyson (Swimming) She swam 50m Backstroke 31.77 and 100 Freestyle in 1:02.8

O’Kane, Emily (Swimming) Swam 100 IM in 1:07.62 and 50 Freestyle in 27.83

Ollquist, Clare (Swimming) She swam 50 Breastroke in 40.75-and in 50 Backstroke 36.87

Pastina, Katie (F XC/Track JV Basketball) Scored 27 Pts. Against St. Mary’s

Quinn, Kevin (V Swimming F Track) Ran 4:55 1600 at City Champs for track. He came in 5th at City Champs for swimming in the 100 fly.

Shea, James (V. Hockey) Scored 3rd period penalty shot goal to defeat McClancy 3 – 2.

Shields, Michael (F XC/Track) Freshmen City Champ Scorer. He ran 400m in 55.4 seconds. We apologize for any ommissions or errors.
