Brotherhood/Sisterhood Prize Winners Selected
Winners of the Rockaway Catholic-Jewish Council’s Nineteenth Annual Brotherhood/Sisterhood essay contest were honored at a special breakfast on Sunday, May 18.
The awards event took place at St. Francis de Sales RC Church. It was co-sponsored by GreenPoint Bank. The attendees included thirty honorees, their proud families, friends, schoolteachers, clergy, and local dignitaries, as well as members of the RCJC.
The winners were selected from entries submitted by Rockaway area public and parochial schools.
Winners of the Deacon Robert Hitter Certificates of Excellence received $25.00 cash awards. Runner-up Theodore Avery Certificate winners received $10.00 cash awards. Handsomely printed gold award certificates were presented to both groups.
The RCJC has expressed its warmest appreciation to Charlie Baytr, Branch Manager of GreenPoint bank for their continuing support for this traditional annual community event.
The winning compositions were assembled into a booklet, which was reproduced in Albany under the auspices of Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer.
The Rockaway Catholic-Jewish Council hopes that the ideas expressed in these uplifted essays will one day soon become living realities throughout the world. The essential theme expressed by the winners was, that we live in troubled times in a multi-cultural society and there are differences among us.
