The Broad Channel Athletic Club Intermediate boys baseball team had an up and down weekend of baseball as they won on Saturday defeating St Gregory’s of Bayside 15-0 and went down to Our Lady Of Mt.Carmel on Sunday 9 to 4. On Saturday, the team was playing on all cylinders as both pitching and hitting prevailed in the victory. The team put runs on the board early with hits from John Miele, Joe Wetzel, Nick Cruz, Ryan Feeney, John Hanning, Anthony Masullo, James Harnisher, Brian Jimenez, Nelto Baez and John Conklin. Nick Ramos was awesome at the plate going 4 for 4 and hitting a long homerun. Miele, Hanning, Harnisher and Jimenez made superior defensive plays.

St Gregory’s offense was shut down by a great pitching performance by Ryan Feeeny who pitched 5 innings of shut out baseball. John Conklin came in and closed the game for the victory. The Boys improved their record to 5 wins and 1 loss with the win. On Sunday with the team played without some of their top players and traveled to Maurice Park to take on the tough Our Lady of Mount Carmel team. The boys were up 2 to 1 in the fifth with a solid pitching performance from John Conklin. Conklin kept the opposing team down at the plate with a great breaking ball through five innings.

With Conklin tiring, Mt Carmel put up 8 runs in the final two innings defeating the Channel boys by a score of 9 to 4. Nick Ramos was the hitting start again as he had three solid hits, one for a homerun. John Hanning and James Harnisher also had a few key hits. Harnisher caught a great game and was injured at home plate on a great defensive play The team wishes him well and looks forward to his return to the lineup. With the team missing some pf their top players the younger boys stepped in to fill the shoes and did a great job. James Kroog and Joe Connolly played a tough game against the older players and were a great addition to the team.Kroog made a few good plays from the third base position and also had a hit. The team plays in the CYO league and will continue their season on Saturday May 24th as they play St Cecelia at 9 am at the day camp field in Broad Channel.
