Last Week For Tribute Park Bricks

Last Week For Tribute Park Bricks

This is the last chance for Rockaway residents to purchase memorial bricks that will be placed in the walkway of the new Tribute Park being built on Beach 116 Street and Beach Channel Drive.

"June 1 is the ultimate, outside date for buying a memorial brick," says Liz Sulik, the executive director of the Rockaway Chamber of Commerce, the organization whose non-profit corporation, The Rockaway Partnership, is sponsoring the fundraiser. "The firm that is laser-cutting the bricks for us cannot promise delivery for the opening of the park for any brick orders after that time."

The engraved bricks will be used in walkways throughout the park.

There are actually several types of bricks for sale.

A 4 by 8 brick that is meant as a memorial that will be etched with the image of a tree costs $75. Those bricks can hold three lines of up to 13 letters.

A 4 by 8 brick not meant as a memorial and lacking the tree sells for the same amount and can hold three lines with up to 16 letters or spaces.

A memorial 8 by 8 brick costs $100 and can hold four lines of up to 13 letters or spaces, while an 8 by 8 brick not meant as a memorial costs the same, but can hold up to 16 letters or spaces.

A person who orders a brick may also order a commemorative miniature version for an additional five dollars.

Those interested in purchasing a brick, or who want further information should contact the Chamber.
