Town Hall Meeting On May 29
Councilman James Sanders, Jr. will hold a Town Hall meeting seeking community input for the upcoming New York City budget negotiations on Tuesday, May 29 at 7:30 p.m.
The fiscal year 2003-2004, which begins July 1, 2003, entails very difficult decisions that have to be made by the City Council soon.
The proposed budget cuts will hurt the city services that the community depends on. The impact will devastate emergency services as well as essential quality of life services.
The Town Hall will also seek to update the community on the issue of crime. Captain Charles V. Talamo of the 100 precinct and a Captain from the 101 precinct will be present to address this issue.
On the issue of the New York City budget, the Town Hall will feature speakers from the Independent Budget Office and the City Council Finance Division, who will discuss the deficit. This year’s budget negotiations will require tough choices, particularly if the State and Federal aid that New York City needs is not forthcoming. Sanders wants the input of every one of his constituents in the Thirty-first Council District in order to represent the community’s needs in the budget review and approval process.
The Town Hall meeting will be held at M.S. 198’s auditorium, located at 365 Beach 56 Street.
