RDRC Appoints Berkel To Director Slot
Rockaway Development and Revitalization Corporation (RDRC) welcomes Mr. Elmo Antonio Berkel, Jr. as the new Director of Business and Professional Services. As the Director, Mr. Berkel is in charge of overseeing Corporation’s goals and objectives in the areas of Business and Professional Services that include the commercial and industrial development of the entire Rockaway Peninsula and Broad Channel.
Berkel started his economic development career as Project Director for the Bushwick Local Development Corporation, the economic component of the Ridgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council, Inc. (RBSCC). Under his leadership, he fostered various economic development initiatives for the community of Bushwick, Brooklyn such the "Three-Step Empowerment Program" and "The Employment Network". His successful collaboration with government and private funding entities enabled the residents and business-owners in Bushwick to live and work in their community.
He was quickly promoted to Director of Management and Operations for the Housing Department of Ridgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council, Inc. where he successfully managed a multi-million dollar affordable housing portfolio.
Berkel is a member of New York City Community Planning Board #4, serving the community of Bushwick in Brooklyn. He is the Co-Chair of the Economic Development Committee and sits on the Housing and Land-use Committee. He graduated Cum Laude from Hunter College where he majored in Political Science and Philosophy. Mr. Berkel is also a graduate of New York University’s Stern School of Business UBAC Program. He enjoys golf, scuba diving, and selling and buying real estate.
