Selected As Johns Hopkins Scholars
This year, for the first time, Gerald R. Dever Middle School 180 has two of its shining stars selected to attend The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) Summer Institutes. Jendayi Hawkins-El and Aaron Lopez are both of class 801 and part of the Law and Forensics Magnet Program at M.S. 180. CTY runs a talent search nationwide every year to identify and attract students in the top three percent of their classes to their summer institutes at 19 various college campuses. In these programs, students will study subjects ranging from mathematics to genetics in a supportive environment that celebrates intellectual talent and cultural diversity. Students that are selected must endure a screening process that includes an application with essay and a test that shows their mathematical and verbal skills. Those with qualifying scores on these tests are invited to apply to CTY’s summer institutes.
