Reduced-Fare MetroCards Available
MetroCard Mobile Sales Outreach staff will be available on Monday, May 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Far Rockaway Branch of the Queens Borough Public Library.
The staff will provide application assistance and information related to the Reduced-Fare MetroCard Program.
Those eligible to apply for a Reduced-Fare MetroCard are senior citizens (65 years and older), Medicare recipients, and Disability/SSI applicants. Specific requirements vary for each.
Senior citizens need proper proof of age, such as Medicare card, and a valid photo ID. Medicare recipients need a copy of their Medicare card and a valid photo ID. Disability/SSI applicants need physician’s/certifier’s diagnosis (including duration of disability), licensing number, and signature, and valid photo ID. The valid photo ID must include birth date and signature.
SSI applicants applying under Serious Mental Illness criteria must provide their Social Security number for verification purposes.
The application assistance and information is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Far Rockaway Branch of the Queens Borough Public Library is located at 1637 Central Avenue.
