The 16 girls of Papa’s Pizza minor league softball opened their season with a 10-8 victory over the Rockaway Rotary in a five-inning game on Sunday, May 4. Exemplary plays by Taylor Conroy, Kyra Meli, Rebecca Moers, Pauline O’Shea, Cathryn Brown, and Annette Scotto both offensively and with a strong defense clinched the win.

A misty, chilly evening came on May 5, 2003 against Flynn&Flynn. It was the setting for a tough 13-12 loss for Papa’s Pizza. The first inning set the tone for this high scoring game with Papa’s scoring 6 runs on 7 hits but Flynn came back with 10 runs and 9 hits in the bottom of the inning. Papa’s notables were Casey Collins, Kyra Meli, and Kristen Sluyk with strong hitting and Erin Tacopina, Rebecca Moers, Kaitlin Twomey with distinctive fielding. A defeat, such as this, really could not be deemed agonizing as it went right to the wire. Both teams demonstrated a lot of heart!
