All youth, ages 7-14, will have the opportunity to participate in Rockaways first Pitch Hit & Run competition sponsored by Pepsi. This exciting baseball extravaganza will take place at Beach Channel High School on Saturday, May 10 at 10 a.m.

The local winners will then go on to the sectional championships at Community Park Fields in Garden City, the regional competitions, and the national finals at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The program is free to all who participate and must being a copy of a valid birth certificate or baptismal record for age verification. The pitch portion will test how accurately a competitor can throw strikes from 45 feet. The hit portion will test the person’s ability to hit a baseball from a stationary tee and measured for distance and accuracy. The run portion of the program will measure a competitor’s speed in a sprint from second base, around third and across home plate. There has been a great response from all the applications and from CSD-27 principals Mrs. Karyn Stevenson of P.S. 183, Ms. Noreen McManus of P.S. 232 and Mr. Brian R. O’Connell of P.S. 114 and Along with St. John’s Baptist Church of Rockaway Beach and Bernard Robinson, director of the Sorrentino Recreation Center, we should have an outstanding day of baseball competition.
