Tom Sawyer Or Huckleberry Finn?

Always, during times of street floods caused by storm tides or heavy rains, kids had fun! Doyouremember?

Pictured today is the captain of the good raft – "door" – who is most likely poling his way up the Mississippi!

Actually the young sailor went overboard without his pants on, just skivvies and a sweatshirt.

The make believe river is Rockaway Beach Boulevard near Beach 65 street.

The Long Island Mattress and Bedding establishment, the Menorah Meat and Poultry store, and a glazier’s shop are shown on the north side of the flooded boulevard. We can safely date this photo as – anytime it rains! – or 1940ish.

The mattress company later became Klinger’s, and Zipzer’s Hardware store nearby along with the Arverne Grocery and a candy store.
